Frequently Asked Questions

What is ECTS?

ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) is a system that facilitates credit transfer between universities across Europe. Each semester is planned as 30 ECTS, and one year as 60 ECTS. 1 ECTS corresponds to approximately 25-30 hours of student workload.

How many ECTS should be taken per semester?

A standard semester consists of 30 ECTS. The annual total is planned to be 60 ECTS. Some universities allow flexibility between 30-40 ECTS per semester.

What is the difference between ECTS and local credits?

Local credits are usually determined by weekly class hours (e.g., 3 hours = 3 credits). ECTS covers the total workload including class hours, homework, projects, and exam preparation. Therefore, ECTS values are generally higher than local credits.
